Takrut is a traditional Thai amulet shaped like a scroll, often encased in metal, bamboo, wood, bone, or sacred paper. Each scroll is inscribed with powerful symbols and mantras rooted in Buddhist, Vedic, Khmer, and Animist traditions. These inscriptions—often unique to the monk who creates them—are written during ritual chanting and sometimes infused with magical oils or powders.
Takrut are believed to carry blessings for protection, luck, wealth, love, and personal power. The effectiveness of the amulet is said to depend both on the monk’s intentions and the faith of the wearer. In times of danger, wearers are encouraged to focus their thoughts on the monk who created the Takrut and silently call upon his spiritual support.
Takrut can be worn as belts, rings, armbands, or even small charms held in the mouth to enhance speech—these are known as Salika Lin Thong (Golden-Tongued Bird). Their versatility and power make them especially popular among soldiers, police officers, and Muay Thai fighters. During matches, fighters often wear a cloth Takrut arm band called a Prajead, while some receive tiny golden Takrut inserted into their skin as a lasting source of strength and protection in the ring.
Luang Pu Chuea of Wat Klang Bang Kaew
Born in 1925, Luang Pu Chuea was ordained at age 26 at Wat Klang Bang Kaew in Nakhon Pathom Province. A devoted disciple of the revered Luang Pu Perm, LP Chuea mastered the arts of mindfulness meditation and sacred Visha (Buddhist magic). He is recognized as the only monk fully entrusted by LP Perm to continue his amulet-making legacy.
Although urged to succeed LP Perm as abbot after his passing, LP Chuea humbly declined the position, choosing instead to serve as the temple’s deputy abbot. Renowned for his metta (loving-kindness) and bahramee (spiritual power), he continues to draw devotees daily, many seeking his guidance and blessings.
Legacy of Luang Pu Perm and LP Boon
LP Perm, former abbot of Wat Klang Bang Kaew, was a highly respected guru monk and direct disciple of LP Boon. LP Boon pioneered the Yant (sacred script) style in modern Thai Buddhism and was revered for his deep knowledge of Dharma and mystical arts.
