Luang Phor Nak: A Revered Monk and Amulet Master
Luang Phor Nak was born on August 1, B.E. 2427 (1884), in Nakhon Ratchasima Province to Mr. Pom and Mrs. Suan Marurngsit. He entered monastic life as a young novice at Wat Bung and was fully ordained at age 21, in B.E. 2448 (1905), at Wat Rakhang Kositaram, Bangkok. From that day on, he devoted his life to the Buddhist faith and the service of others.
One of his most enduring legacies was his dedication to preserving sacred objects. At a time when damaged amulets, shrines, and other holy items were considered unlucky and often discarded, Luang Phor Nak collected and respectfully preserved them. He believed that even broken items retained sacred energy, having been blessed by revered monks. Rather than see them destroyed, he recycled these relics to create new amulets—infused with spiritual power and reverence.
Though Somdej Phra Buddhacharn Toh had passed before Luang Phor Nak's birth, LP Nak studied his teachings deeply, especially his sacred texts. In this way, he is recognized as a true spiritual disciple, faithfully following the methods passed down through generations. His amulets, particularly those made between B.E. 2485–2495 (1942–1952), are highly sought after for their protective and spiritual power. Their value has risen sharply in recent years and demand continues to grow, both in Thailand and internationally. Unfortunately, this has also led to a rise in counterfeit versions.
His Somdej amulets are often compared to the famed Phra Somdej Bangkhunprom and are revered for offering protection, loving-kindness (Metta), good fortune, and life advancement.
Luang Phor Nak is considered one of Thailand’s most respected monks of the post-WWII era, standing among great contemporaries like LP Jaad (Wat Bangkrabao), LP Chong (Wat Natang Nok), and LP Kong (Wat Bangkraphom). He was known for his deep meditative power—said to radiate a cool, bright light while blessing amulets—imbuing them with profound spiritual energy.
Luang Phor Nak passed away on January 15, B.E. 2514 (1971), at Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok at the age of 87, after 66 years of devoted service to Buddhism.
