Venerable Luang Phor Dam Janthasaro: A Life of Spiritual Mastery

Venerable Luang Phor Dam was born on Tuesday, 15th April, 2484 in the Year of the Snake, in the village of Kok Jumbok, Tak Bai, Narathiwat, Thailand. His birth name was "Dam Krai Noi."

At the age of 20, he became a bhikkhu (Buddhist monk) on 26th July, BE2504, at Wat Mai Napparam, where he was given the name Luang Phor Dam Janthasaro. Over the years, through intense study and service, he was later conferred the title "Phra Kru Nipphanviharati" and took on various titles including his Upacha, Phra Kru Nippatkalanyu, and his KammaVachachan, Phra Patalat Puang. His teacher, Phra Anussawat Nachan, was his Athi Nui.

Early Years and Studies

Luang Phor Dam spent his initial three years as a monk at Wat Mai Napparam. He later moved to Wat Prachaphirom, where he began studying "Wicha" (Magical Science) under the guidance of various renowned Arjans (Masters). He traveled to Malaysia, where he spent about a week learning from Luang Phor Kron (Tok Raja) of Wat Bangsaek (Wat Uttamaram). However, it’s important to note that LP Dam was not a direct disciple of LP Kron, despite popular rumors.

LP Dam spent more time studying under LP Dee of Wat Sanghasitharam, Narathiwat, who himself was a disciple of Luang Phor Kron. Under Tok Raja’s tutelage, LP Dee became a master of Wicha, particularly in the consecration of Phra Pidta (amulets) and Mai Kru (Magical Wands). He also learned other Wicha practices like Ammnat (Authority), KungKhaPhan (Invulnerability), Metta (Loving Kindness), MahaNiyom (Popularity), and MahaLarp (Good Fortune) from LP Kron. Despite mastering these techniques, LP Dee was known for being humble and rarely consecrating amulets, focusing instead on spiritual work.

Spiritual Development and Meditation Practice

Luang Phor Dam was deeply committed to meditation, particularly Vipassana and Kammathan practices. He also studied meditation under Luang Phor Boon Thiam of Wat Chok Aerong, with whom he shared a close bond. The two monks often traveled together, especially to Northern Thailand and the Northeast (Issan), practicing Tudong (Asceticism).

During these travels, LP Dam met an elderly Kruba Ajarn (Master), who taught him the secret Wicha of making "Palakid" (Male Organ-shaped amulets). This esoteric knowledge was passed down to a select few disciples, and LP Dam’s Palakid amulets gained a reputation for their powerful efficacy.

LP Dam was also well-known for his creation of Mai Tao/Mai Kru (Magical Wands & Pens). He learned the Wicha for these objects from various masters, including Luang Phor Kron and LP Dee, along with LP Gaet, the great Chao Kanat ChaoAwat of Prachuap Kiri Khan.

Mystical Powers and Community Contributions

One notable event in LP Dam’s life took place in the jungles of Ayutthaya Province, where he used his advanced meditation abilities to avert a flood disaster. This event further solidified his reputation as a master of both meditation and Wicha.

Monastic Appointments and Achievements

As his spiritual influence grew, LP Dam received numerous significant appointments:

* In BE2518, he was appointed Chief Abbot (Chao Awat) of Wat Mai Napparam.

* In BE2527, he was appointed the Chao Kanat Tamboon Kaet Song (Head District Monk).

* In BE2528, he was appointed as an Upacha (Preceptor), a role that empowered him to guide and ordain new monks into the monastic community.

An Upacha is a distinguished position within the Sangha, allowing the holder to accept new devotees into the monkhood, guiding them to full ordination as Bhikkhus.

Legacy and Influence

Throughout his life, LP Dam’s reputation for wisdom, meditation, and the creation of powerful amulets grew. He became a revered figure in both Narathiwat and throughout Thailand, with many devotees, including local Thai Muslims, offering their respect and prayers to him, despite religious differences.

His magical wands, amulets, and meditation teachings continue to inspire monks and laypeople alike, and his legacy as a spiritual leader remains etched in the history of Thai Buddhism.
