Phra Phet Lik: The Sacred Buddha Image of Wat Tai

The Phra Phet Lik Buddha image, created by Chao Khun Phra Thaksin Khanitson, a disciple of Somdet Phra Sangkharat (Pae Tissadevo) and Somdet Phra Wanrat (Daeng), is a powerful amulet known for its deep spiritual significance. It is famously called "Phra Yot Khunphon Nirantarai," due to its extraordinary Buddhist energy.

To create this amulet, the Lord Abbot used a blend of sacred powders, including Maharach, Itthije, and Patamang, mixed with ashes from a Buddha image and the remnants of burned Khoi and Tani palm books. These materials were used for gilding the image. The mixture was bound with "Lak" and molded with rice grains, a practice chosen for their unique, resilient properties—they do not break or cook, symbolizing protection and safety, a reflection of the Buddha’s virtue of escaping danger.

Chao Khun Phra Thaksin Khanitson: A Life of Devotion

Born in 1854 in Samut Songkhram Province, Chao Khun Phra Thaksin Khanitson was a scholar of Khmer language and Thai literature from a young age. Ordained at Wat Rat Burana, he went on to serve at Wat Suthat in Bangkok, eventually becoming the abbot of Wat Pho Nimit in Thonburi. He later moved to Wat Tai, where he passed away in 1941 at the age of 88, after serving as a monk for 60 years.

The Buddha Image: Design and Symbolism

The Phra Phet Lik features a distinctive, arch-shaped mold with a round, elongated top and a straight-cut lower base. The Buddha, seated in meditation, is shown with detailed robes, a rounded head, and distinct facial features. The back is plain with minimal inscriptions, but the front clearly depicts the Buddha’s serene posture and wisdom.

Buddha’s Virtue and Spiritual Power

The Phra Phet Lik is believed to offer powerful protection, often regarded as one of the most invulnerable amulets. Those who possess it are said to benefit from its safety and spiritual strength. Due to its rarity and high demand, authentic versions of this amulet are highly prized and expensive, with a long-lasting legacy that commands respect. When acquiring one, it’s important to verify authenticity, as counterfeit versions are also in circulation.
