Luang Por Plearn Thammako: Revered Monk of Phetchaburi
Luang Por Plearn, a highly respected monk from Wat Nong Mai Leung in Phetchaburi province, is revered for his spiritual power, compassion, and dedication to the monastic life. Born in 2441 B.E. (1898) in Rai Masang, Ban Lat District, he was ordained at age 22 after serving as a police officer. He received the monastic title “Thammako” and rose through the ecclesiastical ranks, eventually becoming abbot of Wat Nong Mai Leung and later Phra Khru Nanthasilawat. His leadership extended beyond spiritual duties—he contributed significantly to local education, infrastructure, and community development. Luang Por Plearn passed away on October 22, 1979, after 60 years in the monkhood.
The Legend of Phra Kring Khlong Takhian
Among his most treasured legacies is the Phra Kring Khlong Takhian amulet. Believed to possess powerful protective qualities, it is especially famed for rendering its wearer invulnerable—reports from locals even speak of bullets and blades having no effect on those who wear it. The amulet is deeply revered among both devout followers and, notably, local gangsters who credit it with saving their lives.
Due to its rarity and mystical reputation, genuine Phra Kring Khlong Takhian amulets are closely guarded and seldom found in amulet markets. Many counterfeits—especially imitations of Phra Kring Wat Pradu—circulate instead. However, experts and collectors can identify authentic pieces by their unique coloration, large mold, and distinct sacred inscriptions.
Luang Por Plearn began crafting amulets around 2485 B.E. (1942), with the first official commemorative coin released in 2495 B.E. (1952). Today, these first-model coins are highly sought after, valued in the hundreds of thousands of baht, placing him among the five most revered monks in Phetchaburi.
