The Legacy of Luang Phor Krai: The Monk Who Tamed the Wild
Luang Phor Krai was a revered disciple of the same teacher who mentored the legendary Luang Phor Tuad at Wat Pako in Songkhla. While Luang Phor Tuad continued his journey north to Ayutthaya to pursue higher Buddhist studies, Luang Phor Krai chose a different path—one of deep meditation and spiritual cultivation in the remote forests of Yala.
It was during this period that Luang Phor Krai is believed to have attained an extraordinary level of meditative power. Using his spiritual abilities, he protected villagers by subduing dangerous wildlife that once threatened their lives—especially tigers and cobras. His remarkable feats became so well known that in the BE 2505 (1962) batch of his amulets, he is depicted seated atop a tiger flanked by two cobras, symbolizing his mastery over nature and his compassionate protection of the people.
In gratitude and reverence, the local community established Wat Lam Phaya, a temple built to honor Luang Phor Krai and preserve his spiritual legacy.
Miracles and Mystique
Legends about Luang Phor Krai have been passed down for generations. One of the most well-known tales recounts that his hair would mysteriously transform into copper, and that any attempt to cut it required a sacred ritual beforehand. After his passing, another miracle occurred.
On June 5, BE 2505, when his ashes were ceremonially moved to Wat Lam Phaya, the urn reportedly emitted a loud metallic sound when tapped. Surrounding trees within a 20-meter radius began to release a mysterious fragrance, and the wood itself was said to possess healing properties, curing illnesses among the faithful.
To further enshrine his spirit, a sacred image of Luang Phor Krai was created and spiritually empowered. When Ajarn Tim of Wat Chang Hai saw the image, he remarked that it matched precisely what he had seen during deep meditation—affirming the presence of Luang Phor Krai’s spirit within.
Sacred Amulets and Ceremonies
The first batch of Luang Phor Krai amulets was consecrated in BE 2505, followed by additional batches in BE 2506 and 2507. These sacred objects were created using Nur Wan, the same holy material used for Luang Phor Tuad's renowned amulets at Wat Chang Hai.
Renowned monks, including Ajarn Tim and Ajarn Nong, were invited to lead the Puttaphisek (consecration) ceremonies at Wat Lam Phaya. Given the close spiritual connection between Luang Phor Krai and Luang Phor Tuad, Ajarn Tim had no hesitation invoking both venerable monks to bless the amulets.
The 2506 and 2507 batches were further blessed by a revered gathering of monks from Pattani and Yala, imbuing these amulets with powerful sacred energy. Today, these early amulets are highly sought after by collectors and devotees alike—not just for their rarity, but for the deep spiritual legacy they represent.
